Getting rid of that darn bell

Console mode has this bell noise. I can't stand it. It drives me NUTS. I get rid of it quickly by editing /etc/inputrc and uncommenting out the line "set bell-style none"

You can get rid of the bell within X windows by using the xset(1) utility. An example of turning off the X windows bell when running an X session on window 0:

xset -display :0 -b
