Trace element diffusion within >4 Ga zircons: Implications for the thermal history of the Hadean Earth
http://www.thern.org/projects/publications/goldschmidt2004poster/

[ June 2004 ] -- Abstract:
E. R. Thern, D. R. Nelson and G. Hitchen, Trace element diffusion within >4 Ga zircons: Implications for the thermal history of the Hadean Earth, Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference, Copenhagen June 5-11 2004, Poster presentation 1.3.P06

Here is the poster presented at the Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference in Copenhagen, June 5-11, 2004

This poster is in .png and .jpg formats and is quite big.

Thermal History of the Hadean Earth inferred from trace-element diffusion within >4 Ga zircons

[ June 2004 ] -- Abstract:
E. R. Thern, D. R. Nelson and G. Hitchen, Thermal history of the Hadean Earth inferred from trace-element diffusion within >4 Ga zircons, Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, Volume 68, Issue 11, Supplement 1, June 2004, Page A71.

Abstract taken from page A71 from this journal and converted to pdf

Real-Time Earthworm Seismic Traces
http://www.thern.org/projects/earthworm/

[ 2001 to present ] -- Abstract:
Online traces from Upstate New York representing 7 seismic stations showing Real-Time earthquake data. Underlying the web frontend is a highly sophisticated earthquake monitoring system that used as the hub for earthquake processing in Northern New York state. This particular link goes to a mirror of the site that I have set up (in archive form) whereas the original site is here: http://quakes.potsdam.edu/earthworm
The original site is no longer maintained by myself or Andrew McDermott, so it may not be real time anymore or may not be updated at all.

Chromium as a water contaminant

[ 2002-06-18 ] -- Abstract:
Chromium is of major concern to many as it is a well known water contaminant. Hexavalent Chromium is the most toxic form, and is produced in many anthropogenic sources. Trivalent Chromium is the most stable state of chromium, and is not known to be toxic. Research into the natural sources of Chromium, mainly ophiolite deposits that contain chromite, will result in a better understanding of chromium as a water contaminant on a natural level.

Configuration and security of a networked heterogeneous Unix environment including Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD

[ 2003-10-15 ] -- Abstract:
This document goes over the hows and why's of setting up a heterogenous Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD network consisting of servers and workstations. This is not fully complete, and in no way is meant to be a full how-to guide, it is meant more as a shortcut journal, with small snippets of code and configuration files.

Magnet Cove Alkalics - Carbonatite Sequence

[ 2002-05-16 ] -- Abstract:
The Magnet Cove Carbonatites are based on a typical carbonatite sequence, which contain about 50% carbonate minerals, mostly calcite and dolomite as well as magnesite and some sodium carbonates. This is an interpretive term paper based on a series of samples given in an Optics and Petrology lab taught by Dr. Robert Badger of SUNY Potsdam. This paper has not been peer reviewed, and is highly interpretive based on five undergraduate geology majors. Use with a vast dose of discretion.

Geology Applications of Open Source Software - Focus on Earthworm software running on Solaris

[ 2002-05-17 ] -- Abstract:
Computers have long been used in geology as helpful tools for data processing, modeling and visualization. The following paper will give a brief introduction to networking and UNIX security, explain the use of open source and free software, and will outline steps that should be taken to keep such things running and available. Emphasis will be placed on the Solaris operating system, Earthworm software suite, and system and network security. Other open source software packages will also be discussed, such as LaTeX, gnuplot, Cygwin & Linux, Grass GIS and Octave.
